BRATISLAVA (SFZ) – After finalizing the list of all 16 participants, the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) released further details regarding the group stage draw for the 2025 UEFA European Under-21 Championship. Slovakia will be placed in the fourth seeding pot. The group stage draw is scheduled for Tuesday, December 3, at 7:00 PM at the Slovak Philharmonic building in Bratislava and will be broadcast on the STVR Šport channel.
As the host of next year’s European Championship, Slovakia is guaranteed a spot in Group A. For scheduling purposes, they will take position A1 in the group stage. However, when it comes to the selection of potential opponents, the Slovak team, known as "Sokolíci," is placed into seeding pots based on the same criteria as the other 15 participants in the European Championship.
UEFA has divided the 16 teams into four seeding pots, each containing four teams. The seeding was determined by a coefficient calculated from results in the last three U21 EURO cycles (2021, 2023, and 2025). The calculation included results from qualification matches, playoff matches, and the final tournament, except for the 2025 U21 EURO cycle. The weight of results from each cycle varied, with performances in the 2023 and 2025 cycles carrying more importance than those in the 2021 cycle.
For teams that did not participate in the qualification phase due to hosting responsibilities, their most recent qualification campaign results were used to calculate their coefficient. For the Slovak national team, which did not take part in the most recent qualification, the results from the U21 EURO 2023 qualification were used for their 2025 cycle coefficient calculation.
